Let’s be honest the Fall TV season was a complete nightmare for the broadcast networks. No breakout shows, a distinct lack of imagination and the hottest show of the season ended up being a cable TV series about zombies.

But 2011 is just around the corner – so that’s gotta mean some good stuff is on the way, right?

Uh-oh – doesn’t look like anyone told CBS – just check out the newly released trailer for Live To Dance, the network’s dance competition series anchored by ex-American Idol judge Paula Abdul.

Like a lot of people out there I like Paula – in small doses. But a little Abdul goes a long way – and there’s already a minute and a half too much Paula in this two minute teaser! Plus don’t forget her Bravo docu-soap Hey Paula died a big old death – and that was at the height of her Idol fame!

Then there’s the concept of the show itself – a very generic looking dance show set in a cheap looking snow globe. It’s based on a Brit format called Got To Dance that does well – but airs on a cable channel and features a big name host, Davina McCall.

The question is – do we really need ANOTHER dance show? Between  So You Think You Can Dance and America’s Best Dance Crew the market is pretty sewn up. And there’s no real new twist or angle visible in this trailer, except that old people are also allowed to take part which means we’ll have lots of those excruciating geriatric performances that regularly plague America’s Got Talent.

CBS – I think you have a real stinker on your hands here! Is this REALLY what you’re resorting to to bring in the youth demo? And you’re gonna put this wreck up against the revamped American Idol, which though I suspect ratings will drop post-Simon will certainly get a LOT of first week viewers…

But what do you think? Am I being too harsh? Are you looking forward to Live To Dance? And how do you think it will fare?
