Crazy Commercials: Virgin Mobile Stalker Ad
Check out the latest advertising campaign for Virgin Mobile – a clear attempt to corner the bunny boiler market!
As usual Virgin’s adverts are certainly memorable and will get people talking…
Here’s the first two commercials below, featuring a couple of crazies stalking their ‘boyfriends’ via their cell phones…
They’re kind of creepy, kind of funny and definitely not your typical mobile phone advert… but will they entice you to buy a Virgin mobile…?
Enjoy!

omg….its a commercial people….lighten up….Are you gonna stop eating Burger King because they have a commercial where the "Burger King" gets hit by a car (because there are people in the world that have been hit by cars). Obviously real life stalking is not humorous, but I think you are taking things WAY too seriously! And trust me…if someone is going to stalk another person, they don't need a commercial from Virgin mobile to teach them how to do it….

I have a great sense of humor and have never really found an advert to be offensive. However, this virgin mobile ad is totally horrendous and I take enormous exception to it. Calling women "crazy" or "psycho" is the new bitch and this commercial only supports that unfounded label. 90% of offenders in spousal violence cases were MEN.
While women are less likely than men to be victims of violent crimes overall, women are 5 to 8 times more likely than men to be victimized by an intimate partner.
It is estimated that 503,485 WOMEN are stalked by an intimate partner each year in the United States. Source: National Institute of Justice, July 2000
Nearly one-third of American WOMEN (31 percent) report being physically or sexually abused by a husband or boyfriend at some point in their lives. Source: Commonwealth Fund survey, 1998
Boooo-urns Virgin Mobile. Booo-urns.

This is totally irresponsible of Virgin Mobile. I agree with the other posters who said advertisers need to be more ethical. We have enough violence in this world. It’s not funny. Maybe if she were looking up her old boyfriend on facebook. NOT stalking him in a tree or closet. For those of us who have lost loved ones due to violence, this is reprehensible.

I have no problem with the ad. I do have a problem with the fact that it couldn't run if it were a man doing the stalking. Women hitting men, stalking men…..that can be considered funny ….yet the reverse not so.

I absolutely sympathize with those who have experienced the real thing, however isn't this just another parody of life as it is today? Must we be so politically correct that we lose our sense of humor in an effort to overcome the ugliness in our world? I truly don't believe that Virgin Mobile's intention is to make light of the real and true stalkings that people have endured. C'mon, really?

I agree with nerd girl… I have been stalked before…. and it is most certainly not funny… I don't know what the hell they are thinking. These idiots will never get my business.

Nope! Based on these ads, I will never consider purchasing a Virgin Mobile phone. Here's why: Not only do the ads make fun of a real issue (stalking–imagine if the ads had men instead of women as the stalker-not as funny? It's not funny for male victims of stalking either) but it also educates real stalkers about how to use their phone to stalk. Don't forget that 30% of stalkers are abusive partners.
I wish that the advertising industry would be more ethical and mindful of their practices. They think the are being edgy and I guess they are but why does edgy always have to be hurtful?
