The Voice-NBC

Winners and Losers From The Last 7 Days

WINNERS

THE VOICE: Oops it looks like we might have boo booed here at Remote Patrolled!

A few weeks ago I predicted that NBC’s new music competition series would be a big old bomb.  But though I’m going to reserve full judgment until the week 2 figures come in it’s certainly looking good for the show at the moment!

Tuesday night’s premiere debuted with a strong 11.77 million viewers and a terrific 5.1 18-49 share – the second highest of the week, behind American Idol. Significantly The Voice grew its audience over the course of its two-hour opener AND a repeat the next night also performed well with 6.14 million viewers and a 2.2 youth share. For NBC these are amazing figures. And the show even put a dent into Glee which despite a 90 minute special (intended to hurt The Voice’s ratings) actually hit a season low with 8.61 million and a 3.4 18-49 share.

I think a follow up post may be in order soon!

THE OFFICE: More good news for NBC this week (how often do I get to say those words?) as Steve Carell’s final Office appearance pulled in 8.41 million viewers and a 4.2 18-49 share.

That’s great on paper – though I must admit I think the total viewing figures are a tad underwhelming given all the hype that preceded Carell’s exit. Still NBC have bigger problems on their hands – on the same night Community pulled in just 3.34 million, 30 Rock 3.95 million and Parks And Recreation 4.71 million. As I always say – whatever happened to Must See TV?

SouthPark

SOUTH PARK: It may be into its 15th season but there’s no stopping Comedy Central’s still strong South Park. Wednesday’s season premiere – spoofing the grotesque Human Centipede – pulled in 3.1 million viewers and a 1.8 18-49 share for the top cable ratings of the night. That’s down on the premiere of Season 14 but equivalent with the Season 13 opener.

Unfortunately it’s not such good news for new comedy Workaholics, which lost half of its South Park lead in, ending up with 1.44 million viewers and a 0.8 18-49 share. And speaking of this week’s losers…

LOSERS

RAISING HOPE: Hmm, I wonder if Fox are suffering from buyer’s remorse yet?

The network surely can’t be happy that the already renewed Raising Hope is pulling in such dismal figures – especially when the show has one of the best time slots on TV, immediately following Glee.

This week’s Raising Hope managed just 4.53 million viewers and hit a season low 1.9 18-49 share. Those are pretty bad figures for a network that’s generally in decent shape – and has a strong Fall line up. Plus given the failure of Traffic Light, Running Wilde and The Good Guys things aren’t looking good on the Fox comedy front. Thank goodness Breaking In is holding its own – for now…

MARCEL’S QUANTUM KITCHEN: Okay so it looks like we got it wrong on The Voice – but I was spot on on this one!

Remember last year when I wrote about the new slate of Syfy shows that seemed to me seriously off brand. I had high hopes for Face Off which turned out to be a terrific reality show – and a big hit.  But I questioned why Syfy would do a cooking show – no matter how jazzed up the format might be.

Well it seems I was right – with Marcel this week pulling in a measly 331,000 viewers and a 0.2 18-49 share. That’s way down on the network average and the 1.5 million or so that Face Off was pulling in each week. And there’s more bad news on the night with Destination Truth also struggling with just 581,000 viewers.

Syfy may be cooking – but it doesn’t look like anyone wants what they’re serving…

SECRET DIARY OF A CALL GIRL: Okay get ready for some truly shocking figures!

Remember Secret Diary Of A Call Girl, the Brit import that was heavily promoted a couple of years ago alongside the equally ‘edgy’ Weeds. Well Call Girl is back – who knew – clearly not the viewers who abandoned the show in droves. How else can you explain the show’s ratings on Thursday night when Secret Diary pulled in just 75,000 viewers. Yep you read that correctly! 75,000!!!!

The show didn’t even register an 18-49 rating – and to think Call Girl was actually a hit when it debuted 4 seasons back. Thank goodness it’s the last season…
