Winners and Losers From The Last 7 Days

FALLING SKIES: It’s one of the most divisive shows on TV, with a whole legion of fans and haters, but no one can deny the figures. Love it or loathe it, Steven Spielberg’s alien invasion series is a bona fide hit.

Sunday night’s 2 part finale pulled in 5.70 and 5.54 million viewers respectively and a 1.9 18-49 share. That’s actually more total viewers than True Blood (which managed 5.14 million the same night) though the demo share is much lower (the younger skewing Blood managed a 2.9). For Falling Skies it was the show’s highest ratings since the series premiere back in June. Looks like TNT made the right call after all with that early season 2 renewal…

STORAGE WARS: Wow – where are these figures coming from!

Business is booming over at A&E where the relatively new series Storage Wars has blossomed into an out of the box hit!

Wednesday night’s double bill pulled in 4.52 and 4.80 million viewers and a 1.9 / 2.0 18-49 share. That’s the best demo numbers of the night for cable and in total viewers Storage Wars more than doubled the numbers for TV Land’s slowly fading Hot In Cleveland (2.02 million) and FOUR times the viewers of Roseanne’s Nuts (854,000). Plus Storage Wars is a very cheap show to produce. A&E really are riding high these days…

THE GLEE PROJECT: The Glee movie may be dying a death at movie theaters (as I predicted a few weeks ago) but after a shaky start, Oxygen’s Glee Project has definitely found its feet.

Sunday night’s episode, featuring the final five contenders, pulled in 912,000 viewers to rate as the show’s highest rated episode to date.

Personally I think The Glee Project should be doing much better – this is Glee after all – and I also don’t understand some of the judges’ decisions (sending Hannah home but keeping in the dreadful Alex?). Still, given the shaky start the series got off to I suspect many Oxygen – and Fox – execs are breathing a sigh of relief…

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: It’s the end of yet another season – but does anyone really care?

Fox’s veteran reality show – So You Think You Can Dance – closed out its 8th season on Thursday night with 6.13 million viewers and a 2.0 18-49 share.

That’s not bad on paper – and certainly better than this year’s crop of new unscripted shows – but those figures also represent a 15% drop on last year’s finale. Plus the season as a whole had been down year on year. And the Wednesday night final performance show couldn’t even crack the 6 million mark (5.76 million)

Dance certainly isn’t going anywhere anytime soon but Fox must surely be looking at the figures and wondering how much mileage is still left in the series…

KATE PLUS 8: This one’s for all the Kate haters out there!

Since Kate Gosselin can never be off our screens for more than a few weeks, she’s back once again with another episode of the increasingly over-produced Kate Plus 8.

But Monday night’s premiere only scored 1.09 million viewers and a 0.4 18-49 rating, a pretty poor showing for an opening episode, and a sure sign that this season is going to mostly live under the million mark.

On the same night Kate was beaten by Hoarders (1.67 million), a midnight episode of Robot Chicken (1.92 million) and the now canceled Eureka on Syfy (2.24 million). Those 15 minutes are almost up!
