It’s been a while since I’ve recommended a new TV series here at Remote Patrolled – not surprising when you consider the slate of mid-season debuts that have premiered in recent weeks. Do No Harm and The Job were both yanked after just two episodes on air, Deception is barely holding on and 1,600 Penn will struggle to make it to the spring. All four felt like sloppy leftovers so I’m not surprised audiences rejected them so soundly!
Thankfully there has been one ratings bright spot this season – and it belong to Fox. I had a feeling The Following, the Kevin Bacon serial killer drama, would hit it big – and I was right. The Following debuted strong and has kept a big chunk of its ratings in subsequent weeks. The reason – it’s good!
So now’s a great time to get on board. If you’re not already watching The Following, here’s what you need to know…
Check out the just released trailer for Game of Thrones, season 3 – launching Sunday 31st March at 9pm EST on HBO.
As everyone knows, Game of Thrones is based on the bestselling book series by George R.R. Martin – but unlike previous seasons this years batch of episodes only covers HALF a book – the first half of A Storm of Sands. Of course that means HBO can get an extra season out of the show – and gives Martin more time to finish books 6 and 7, before the TV adaptation catches up with him!
As usual with these kinds of trailers, not much is actually revealed here! We get glimpses of all the main characters and the usual portentous voiceover! And of course there’s that dragon…
I’m a big Game of Thrones fan and last season was definitely a good one overall. That said, I hope the show is more connected this year – one of my key issues with season 2 is that it was essentially 8 different storylines that never really connected. Plus one of my favorite characters, Daenerys, had very little to do other than wander round a desert city looking for her stolen More >
Hey guess what – my favorite music competition is finally worth watching again!
After suffering through a truly terrible two-year period – let’s call it ‘The Steven Tyler Era’ – American Idol has bounced back better than ever in the last few weeks. And it’s all to do with those brand new judges – Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj.
At the start of the year I speculated as to how the new Idol panel would fare, hoping for the best, but expecting the worst. At a time when Fox pays Britney Spears $15 million to speak with a strange British accent, act robotically and struggle to give even the vaguest semblance of a critical note – my expectations weren’t exactly high. But the new Idol judges are smart, thoughtful, critical and passionate. Phew!
Nowadays she’s one of the world’s most successful actresses – and an Oscar nominee to boot – but even Catwoman had to start somewhere! Here’s Anne Hathaway in her first TV appearance on a commercial for Better Homes and Gardens. And guess what she’s crying. Again! This spot first aired in 1999, around the time that Hathaway’s career officially launched on the short lived Fox comedy, Get Real. That show only lasted for one season, but 2 years later Anne hit it big in The Princess Diaries, followed by the likes of Brokeback Mountain, The Devil Wears Prada, Rachel Getting Married, The Dark Knight Rises, Les Miserables and, umm, Bride Wars. Well I guess you can’t win them all. (more…)
When Does It Start: Thursday 14th February at 8pm EST on ABC
In A Nutshell: It’s National Treasure meets The Da Vinci Code
What’s It About: Hank Galliston (Anthony Edwards) is the editor of Modern Skeptic Magazine, a publication devoted to conspiracy theories and debunking myths. But when Hank’s wife, Laila, is abducted, he finds himself thrust into an adventure that will require all his investigative and puzzle solving skills.
Laila is the owner of an antique clock shop and contained within one of her clocks is a treasure map. If the map falls into the wrong hands it could be cataclysmic for mankind… hmm, stop me if you’ve heard this one before!
Along for the ride are Hank’s young colleagues Rachel and Arron (for the 18-34 audience) and a sexy FBI agent, Rebecca.
Watch out everyone – they’re letting me back on your TV screens!
You may recall that last summer my company Savannah Media, launched a 2 hour special on the Chiller network called Can You Survive A Horror Movie (I may have mentioned it a few hundred times!)
The show went on to be the network’s highest rated original special to date in the 18-34 demo and we’ve been busy in the meantime developing some follow up projects – details to come soon…
In the meantime though I’ll be taking part in Chiller 13: Most Horrifying Hook Ups, this Friday 8th July at 8pm EST on the Chiller network.
The show takes a look at some of the most famous horror pairings of all time, from Glenn Close and Michael Douglas in Fatal Attraction to Fay Wray and King Kong to Julia Roberts and Patrick Bergin in Sleeping With The Enemy and many more…
