Uh oh – it’s all over for the ladies of Wisteria Lane!
As you’ve no doubt read online over the last few days, ABC has decided to make the upcoming 8th season of Sunday night hit Desperate Housewives the shows last. But did they make the right decision – or jump the gun a season too soon?
As regular Remote Patrolled readers know I’m a big Desperate Housewives fan and have been from day one. By and large I think the show has maintained its quality but I must admit I did start to get restless last season and found myself fast forwarding through some of the show’s duller storylines (three words – Susan’s kidney saga). But that said I think I was still hoping for an 8th AND 9th season of the show – especially as all the cast members had signed up for two more years in a series of protracted negotiations in the spring. After all the work that went into those deals why did ABC suddenly get such itchy feet?
On the one hand maybe the network are feeling ultra confident about their upcoming Fall line-up. ABC certainly has some promising shows in the hopper which we’re steadily previewing here on the More >
Here’s another new feature we’re starting up on Remote Patrolled…
‘Guest Starring‘ is our look back at a famous face before they hit it big…
First up – here’s Jane Lynch in 2006, making an appearance on the second season of Desperate Housewives. Jane played Maxine Bennett, a culinary rival to Bree – but with a skeleton in her closet!
I found this clip recently while trawling through the net – and honestly had no idea Jane Lynch had ever appeared on Housewives! And I’m a die hard fan who has seen virtually every episode of the show…
I guess it was because Jane Lynch was less on my radar those days. Sure I’d loved her in Best In Show and of course she’d been in The 40 Year Old Virgin the year before – but this was 3 years before her big breakout as Sue Sylvester in Glee. In those days Lynch was simply a great character actress who stole every scene she appeared in… and of course she’s as fabulous as ever here (although kudos too to the always magnificent Marcia Cross – the Desperate Housewives ladies don’t get nearly enough credit)
Anyway check out Jane in action… and stay tuned for more ‘Guest Starring’ moments More >
Why Life On Wisteria Lane Has Become A True Soap Opera
It’s the showbiz catfight everyone is talking about – did Desperate Housewives’ creator Marc Cherry really slap his former star, Nicolette Sheridan, across the face during her time on the show?
Sheridan is taking Cherry and ABC to court in a $20 million lawsuit and suddenly everyone is caught in the crossfire, most notably Nicolette’s Wisteria Lane co-stars who clearly don’t want to criticize their boss, but also doubtless feel loyalty to their former colleague. Today’s Daily Beast has an article looking at the truth behind the claims – albeit mostly from anonymous staffers . Doubtless this story is just getting started and will play out in even more detail over the coming weeks. Maybe it’ll even lift the show’s ratings – which could definitely do with a boost this season (although personally I think the show has done a remarkable job of keeping up the quality over the years).
