GRIMM: A tough week all round for the broadcast networks as the 2012 slumps continue…
It’s been hard to pick ANY winners this week, but at a push I’d go for Grimm, one of the few new shows for NBC that hasn’t been a total disaster from the get go.
On Friday nights Grimm is holding its own, this week pulling in 5.58 million viewers (in preliminary figures) and a 1.7 18-49 share.
No one’s going to be doing cartwheels over those numbers but for Friday nights those are decent figures and actually BETTER than many of the ratings NBC is pulling in better slots across the week. Yep the network really is in that bad a shape.
And now onto the losers… and boy are there lots!
A little late on the Ratings Roundup this week – have been insanely busy on the TV front recently. But here it is – better late than never!
ALCATRAZ: It was definitely a week of mixed fortunes for Fox, with American Idol returning to new lows and lots of people – including yours truly – questioning the future of TV’s top rated series.
But there was also some good news on hand as well in the form of Monday night’s Alcatraz. Produced by J.J.Abrams, the mysterious prison saga brought in 10.05 million viewers and a healthy 3.3 18-49 share. That was better than the premiere ratings of the massively hyped Terra Nova in the same time slot, even though Terra received millions of dollars more in promotion (in fact if Alcatraz continues to fare this well it could well spell the end for the low rated Spielberg dinosaur drama)
Of course as we all know you should never read too much into a show’s premiere ratings. Fox’s New Girl debuted with boffo numbers and now is a minor hit at best – so we’ll see how Alcatraz fares in week 2. Still it’s a good start for Fox. Now if only J.J. could bring More >

FAIRYTALE TV: Looks like there might be a couple of happy ever afters for the broadcast networks this week!
After a mixed season with several successes but no major out of the box smashes, both ABC and NBC received some good news this week from some rather unexpected sources.
For ABC the pleasant surprise was Once Upon A Time, the fairy tale series that’s been tasked with launching their whole Sunday night line-up. Given that that line-up includes Desperate Housewives and Pan Am, two shows that define the phrase ‘fading fast’ that’s quite a tall order. But Once Upon A Time more than stepped up to the challenge, pulling in a terrific 12.93 million viewers and a 4.0 18-49 share. That’s ABC’s best drama premiere this Fall and LAST Fall! Now of course the question becomes – how will the ratings hold up in week 2? Remember Pan Am…
