Wow – what a year it’s been. You know a TV year has been great when it’s hard to select just ten terrific shows for an end of the year list. I could easily have added The Americans, The Following, Modern Family and Mr Selfridge to this list. But in the end here’s my 10 faves of the year…
And nope I don’t watch Breaking Bad. I think that one’s had more than its fair share of coverage already!
Is it just me or do the same old shows and people keep getting the same endless praise time and again! I mean seriously – do the like of Homeland, Girls and Community need any more critical awards, magazine articles or think pieces! And how boring is it to see the likes of Damian Lewis, Julianne Margulies and Jon Hamm receiving awards time and again (however deserving they may be!)
Fact is there are scene-stealers all over our screens – and many of them don’t get the praise they deserve. So here’s 5 actors I think deserve a little extra credit. Many of them aren’t the main stars of their respective shows – but all punch above their weight and add a little extra oomph to their series.
Do you agree – and who would you add to the list? Comment away…
The Fall TV season is now in full swing and it’s time for me to pick my first recommendation of the freshmen crop. And it’s a show I never expected to even like – let alone LOVE!
Yep, it’s Nashville, the country music drama that’s my new favorite TV addiction. Now let me say up front that I have hardly any interest in country music – aside from a few country divas like Carrie, Shania and Reba! But Nashville has converted me. Fact is it’s just terrific TV – fast paced, smart, well acted and multi-layered.
If you’re not watching Nashville yet here’s the story so far. Fortysomething mom of two Rayna James (Connie Britton) is a country music legend dealing with a changing market that regards her as well past her prime. Her latest album is underperforming and her tour isn’t selling. Meanwhile she’s still secretly in love with her guitar player Deacon (Charles Esten) – her long-term lover whose spell in rehab derailed their romance and spurred her marriage to the seemingly more stable Teddy (Eric Close).
