Sneak Peek: Glee ‘Original Song’
Mar 14th
After a two week break, Glee is back tomorrow night – and it’s Regionals time once again!
This week’s show promises to be pretty packed with LOTS going on! You’ve probably already heard about Kathy Griffin‘s appearance as a Tea Party candidate turned Glee judge – she’s certainly wound up the ultra-sensitive Sarah Palin (go Team Griffin!)
There’s also plenty of songs on the way. The Glee gang will be singing three tunes, while the Dalton Warblers get FOUR performances including Pink‘s anthemic ‘Raise Your Glass‘ and Maroon 5′s ‘Misery’.
But it’s the fact that the Glee club will be singing ORIGINAL songs this week that’s getting the most attention, especially since one of the tracks, ‘Loser Like Me’, was written by hit machine Max Martin (who produced pretty much all the best Britney material). Plus Mercedes gets a solo – ‘Hell To The No’ and ‘Get It Right’ is Rachel’s moment to shine.
Here’s a Sneak Peek at what’s in store… watch those original songs climb the Itunes chart on Tuesday night!
Quick Take: Glee ‘Sexy’
Mar 9th
Another week of Glee, Gwyneth Paltrow singing again – and uh-oh, series creator Ryan Murphy is back in the director’s chair!
Normally the latter would mean disaster for everyone’s favorite high school musical but to be fair, last night’s episode wasn’t half bad. A tad heavy handed in places but given the dubious depths of some of Murphy’s previous episodes (such as Britney / Brittany) I can’t complain too much. Consider me a Gleek half satisfied.
Of course the big news last night was the return of Paltrow’s Holly Holiday, who came to shake up the school as a sex ed substitute teacher. Gwyneth was as fresh and luminous as her last appearance, a mere 8 episodes ago and it was great to see Mr Schu getting some action with someone actually sane and likeable (as opposed to toxic Terri and OCD Emma)
Sneak Peek: Glee Gets Bieber Fever
Feb 14th
Well it had to happen didn’t it… after Madonna, Britney and Lady Gaga it’s time for Glee to take on another musical giant… Justin Bieber.
Really, Justin Bieber – is this seriously what Glee has come to now?
Look I’m not a Bieber hater – in fact I even downloaded his new single Never Say Never – but this just feels like pure pandering. This week’s Glee will feature two Bieber songs, Baby and Somebody To Love, which is probably about half of his back catalog in one go!
The reason for the Bieber songs? Sam (the terminally dull Chord Overstreet) sings a track to win back Quinn’s love… and the performance goes over so well he ends up forming his own one-man boy-band, The Bieber Experience
I get it – Justin Bieber will bring in the teen girls big time. But I’d like to think Glee is bigger and better than these kind of stunts, especially as the show will also function as free advertising for Justin’s just released concert movie, Never Say Never. But then again, this is a show that never misses a chance to stunt cast…
Elsewhere in the episode we’ve got SING by My Chemical Romance, ‘Take Me Or Leave Me‘ More >
SNEAK PEEK: SPARTACUS – ARENA OF THE GODS
Jan 4th
It’s gladiators time again…
Check out the latest batch of promos for the upcoming Spartacus prequel, Gods of the Arena, coming January 21st to Starz.
By now you probably know the backstory to this second season. Original Spartacus star Andy Whitfield was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma while filming the original second season of Spartacus: Blood And Sand, so the producers had to get creative to work around his absence. The result – a prequel – featuring a new lead, Gannicus (Dustin Clare), while still retaining key cast members John Hannah and Lucy Lawless from the first series.
Personally I’m not sure you’ll be able to tell the difference that much. Spartacus is the same mix of blood, breasts and butts along with those slow-mo action effects that have become increasingly tiresome in Hollywood cinema (The Matrix killed modern action movies. Discuss!) It’s not really my kind of show – but if you love this kind of macho blood and guts you’ll be in hog heaven!
So will you be watching the Spartacus prequel…?
FIRST LOOK: FALLING SKIES
Dec 28th
Am I the only one a little bored by alien invasion stories these days?
Between TV shows like V and countless Hollywood movies (from Independence Day and War of the Worlds to the recent Skyline to next summer’s Cowboys and Aliens) the idea of malevolent UFO’s and extra-terrestrials just doesn’t feel so fresh anymore.
And now, next summer brings another version to the mix. Here’s Falling Skies, TNT’s alien epic starring Noah Wyle and produced by Steven Spielberg (who’ll seemingly put his name to ANYTHING these days!)
I really wanted to like this show but I have to be honest it looks kind of lame, like a bad Syfy channel movie with cheesy aliens, gun toting resistance members and the inevitable foreboding alien ships. Plus I think V has covered much of this ground already – and look what happened there!
But this is cable. The ratings can afford to be lower, and frankly the kind of ratings V was getting at the end of its spring run would probably be perfectly acceptable to TNT. But I don’t think we’re seeing the next True Blood / Walking Dead style TV phenomenon here unless I’m really missing something…
What do you think? Are you excited for the show? More >
FIRST LOOK: THE NEW UPSTAIRS, DOWNSTAIRS
Dec 17th
In TV timing is everything…
It’s one of the reasons why Survivor is a smash in the States, while Big Brother is a more minor summer hit. It’s partly why Lost became a phenomenon and other arced mystery series like Flash Forward and The Event, didn’t. And it’s why no network wants to ever come second when it comes to getting their concepts on screen.
Now this Christmas in the UK sees the return of Upstairs Downstairs, the classic 1970′s drama series following the lives of a wealthy London family, and the staff that work for them. A remake has long been promised – but in typical boneheaded BBC fashion the show has taken a long time to return to our screens… which of course has allowed competing network ITV1 to jump in and produce THEIR Upstairs Downstairs-like smash, Downton Abbey. Now the original just feels like sloppy seconds!
I’ve written about Downton Abbey a LOT here at Remote Patrolled – for me it was undoubtedly one of the series of the year – dramatic, clever, addictive and surprising (check out my Richard Recommends for more) And I wasn’t alone in thinking that way – the show has been ITV’s biggest drama smash in More >
FIRST LOOK: COME FLY WITH ME
Dec 13th
Here’s the first look at Come Fly With Me, the new comedy series from David Walliams and Matt Lucas – the guys behind the BBC smash Little Britain.
If you’re British like me, Walliams and Lucas would be household names and phrases like ‘I’m the only gay in the village’, ‘bitty’, ‘but I’m a lady!’ and ‘computer says no‘ will already have you laughing. But if you’re American you probably only know the duo from the HBO Little Britain remake, Walliams from the movie Dinner For Schmucks and Lucas from Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland…
That’s a shame – if you haven’t seen the show yet go online and check it out straight away! I’m a big Little Britain fan and when I tell my American friends the kind of material the duo get away with on a prime-time show on public service television their jaws just drop! Just take a look at the clip below and imagine the equivalent airing on CBS at 9 o’clock in the evening! Can you imagine… (btw nsfw!)
SNEAK PEEK: GLEE ‘NEVER BEEN KISSED’
Nov 9th
It feels like ages since Glee was last on air, though in reality it’s only been two weeks since that Rocky Horror special (which wasn’t half as gimmicky as I was expecting it to be).
But Glee is back tonight with a new episode titled ‘Never Been Kissed’.
By now you all know the big story – the arrival of Kurt’s future boyfriend, Blaine, whose performance of Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream has been attracting a lot of attention this last week (we posted the clip a few days ago!)
Well here’s another musical clip from tonight’s show as the girls take on the boys in a song ‘mash up‘ contest… hmm, why does that sound familiar? Maybe because Glee pulled out EXACTLY the same storyline LAST season in an episode even called ‘Mash Up’. Really, Glee – recycling story lines ALREADY?
Anyway last time around the girls mixed up Halo and Walking On Sunshine… this time they’re going all rock with a mix of Start Me Up and Livin On A Prayer... though let’s use ‘rock’ in inverted commas here shall we…
On a more positive note, tonight’s show also takes on the topic of teen bullying (see the preview below) – a hugely important subject given the rash of recent teen More >
SNEAK PEEK: MICHAEL J. FOX ON THE GOOD WIFE
Nov 6th
The stunt casting is out in force this month – hmm, could it be November sweeps…?
Hot on the heels of Eliza Dushku on The Big Bang Theory and Amber Tamblyn’s upcoming House arc, here’s Michael J. Fox guest starring in next week’s edition of The Good Wife – playing a lawyer with a Parkinsons’ like condition who uses his disease to win cases…
It’s a good idea for an episode and a nice mix of comedy and seriousness for the Back to the Future actor – plus The Good Wife could do with a bit of buzz on the heels of its recent middling ratings.
I’ve been checking The Good Wife out actually in recent weeks and I think it’s okay – but I just can’t get over my aversion to ‘case of the week’ type shows, which always feel overly simplistic to me. That said I think Kalindra (Emmy winner Archie Panjabi) is terrific fun to watch on the series – and I’m also a big Julianna Margulies fan…
Here’s a behind the scenes look at Michael in action – and the episode airs this Tuesday 10 / 9c on CBS…
Are you a Good Wife fan… and will you be watching…?

SNEAK PEEK: GLEE GOES GAY!
Nov 5th
Or should that be gay(er)?
Here’s the moment many of us have been waiting for since Glee first launched last year – the arrival of a boyfriend for Kurt…
By now you’ve probably read all the news reports – Kurt’s first boyfriend is called Blaine and is played by Darren Criss, himself a singer songwriter. Blaine is a member of a rival Glee club called the Dalton Academy Warblers and while their relationship will start off as platonic… well we all know where it’s going…
I’ve been a big critic of Glee’s gay story lines in the past – but in recent week’s Kurt’s character has started to redeem himself and show actual growth and the character’s high school loneliness is a feeling I think all gay teens can identify with…
This clip (sadly lifted from Perez Hilton – my apologies!) is really sweet – honestly it left a lump in my throat – and I’m so pleased the producers chose a HOT guy who isn’t a gay stereotype… and he can sing great!
Check out the clip below – and let’s hope this story makes a big difference to a lot of kids’ lives…
