Our favorite vampire saga is over for another summer – but what did you make of last night’s True Blood season finale?
If I’m honest I was a bit underwhelmed. Last week’s installment was so fast and frantic that it played like a season finale, and frankly left this ending with nowhere to go. Okay I’ll admit, the sight of Jessica holding a massive ‘missile launcher’ was pretty darn silly (she’s still meant to be a naïve teenager remember) and some of the Marnie moments did touch on the absurd, but at least last week was eventful and exciting…
By contrast the ACTUAL season finale was a bit of a damp squib in my opinion. For the first 20 minutes or so we had the wrap up of the Marnie saga as the Bon Temps witch possessed Lafayette, murdered Jesus, kidnapped Bill and Eric and was finally persuaded into the ‘light’. It sort of worked and sort of didn’t. How on earth did Marnie manage to kill all those guards and ‘silver’ our two vampire favorites onto the top of a bonfire – with NO help? And the scenes of the ‘dead’ coming back to persuade Marnie to give up her mission More >
Okay, I’ve bitten my tongue for as long as I can… and I just can’t contain myself anymore!
Can we all finally agree that it’s high time that the truly tiresome Andy Bellefleur met the true death on True Blood?
I’ve stuck with my favorite vampire saga for 4 full seasons – through the highs (Maryann, King Russell, Alcide) and the lows (a good chunk of Season 3) – so as a true fan I’m totally in my rights to name paunchy local cop Andy the series most unnecessary and uninteresting character. Ever!
Through all the time that we’ve known him Andy has never once risen to the level of a 3 dimensional character. He’s True Blood’s resident oaf, a cartoonish clown who can always be relied upon to screw up and get the facts wrong. So basically he’s Jason. Except Sookie’s brother at least has his sex appeal to fall back on.
So have you been following the latest season of True Blood… and if so what are your thoughts so far?
I’ve been a big True Blood fan from the very start but as regular Remote Patrolled readers would know, I was NOT a big supporter of the messy Season 3 which suffered from far too many characters, dragged out story lines and a whole heap of plots that didn’t connect.
So I was pleasantly surprised when Season 4 started with a bang a few weeks ago – and since then the quality has remained pretty high. But of course I’m never satisfied and there are always holes to pick!
On the plus side I’m loving Marnie the witch – a worthy successor to the fabulous Maryann (when is Michelle Forbes going to get her own series I wonder?) I also like how the witches versus vampires storylines has given the season clear battle lines and a central thrust that was missing from last year’s show.
Now that’s more like it!
After a shaky 3rd season which left many True Blood fans, myself included, confused and underwhelmed, last night’s Season 4 opener was a confident, sexy and surprising return to form. It’s early days and I’m always wary of making snap judgments so early – but has got its mojo back? Here’s hoping…
Okay, first of all let’s get the bad stuff out of the way. You know what I’m talking about – those opening few minutes. I’m sorry, but however you stage it, Sookie in Fairyland just doesn’t work for me! Watching Anna Paquin wander around a brightly lit soundstage while her co-stars consumed illuminated apples was silly enough. But when the action switched to a Star Trek like landscape with the transformed ‘goblin like’ fairies hurling balls of light at Sookie and her grandfather. Ouch – definitely not the best way to start the series…
It’s that time of the year again – when TV starved summer audiences finally find the fix they’ve been craving.
Yes, after a few weeks of banal network reality offerings (101 Ways To Leave A Game Show – really!), bad comedy (hello, Happily Divorced) and Bachelorettes, summer officially kicks off this weekend with the return of True Blood Season 4…
I’ve been a fan of HBO’s vampire saga from the start and over the last three years True Blood has given us some delicious moments, storylines and characters. Remember Michelle Forbes’ fabulous Maryann, Season 1’s terrific murder mystery and Jason’s V-addiction?
But let’s be honest – last season was not a vintage year for True Blood. I really wanted to love season 3 – and there were some great moments along the way – but as a whole the series was chaotic, contrived and at times, actually a bit boring.
It’s almost here… True Blood is back June 26th, bringing with it the official start of the summer TV season!
As you may know, I had mixed feelings on Season 3 which was horribly overpopulated with characters, became mired in some really dull plotlines (most involving Jason) and wasn’t as cohesive as the first two series. But I’m hoping Season 4 will get the show back on track.
Already I have to applaud HBO for NOT over-promoting the show as they did last time around. Less is more sometimes and I think Season 3 suffered from insanely high expectations and over-hyping.
This first trailer doesn’t reveal much aside from a lot of snarling vampires and a shirtless Alcide! But we know Season 4 is all about witches, Godric will be back and vampire spokesperson Nan Flanagan has been promoted to series regular.
